Challenge
An alternative fuels manufacturer was developing a solution to help buses and trucks operate on propane rather than diesel. With diesel costs and emissions a concern, the customer needed a reliable system that could support the transition to propane while meeting the vehicle application’s performance and durability requirements.
The engine retrofit required specialized valving, but no off-the-shelf option met the application requirements. A customized solution was needed to provide the reliability and longevity required to meet the manufacturer’s warranty timeline.
Solution
Exotic worked alongside the customer’s engineering team and Parker to develop a custom valving solution for the propane fuel system. The teams evaluated the application requirements and engineered a solution using Skinner valves and high-temperature hose to meet the specific demands of the retrofit.
The custom approach allowed the components to be tailored to the application rather than compromising the system around an existing off-the-shelf product. The resulting solution provided the performance, reliability, and durability needed for the propane-powered engine application.
