Generating High-Purity Air for Emissions Testing

Saving Space and Reducing Downtime with On-Site Zero Air Generation

Exotic helped an automotive research and development facility replace high-volume Zero Air bottle usage with Parker Zero Air Generators, providing a reliable, space-saving source of ultra-high-purity air for emissions testing.

Challenge

An automotive research and development facility was experiencing challenges maintaining the air cleanliness required for emissions testing. The test stand relied on Zero Air bottles, consuming as many as 10 bottles per day. The high usage created the potential for delivery delays, frequent bottle changes, and equipment downtime.

The customer needed a more reliable and efficient source of high-purity air that could meet the test stand’s flow and purity requirements while reducing the space and maintenance demands associated with bottled gas.

Solution

Exotic worked with the customer to specify Parker Zero Air Generators based on the test stand’s required flow rate and high-purity standards. The generators were installed and connected to the facility’s existing compressed air system to provide a continuous supply of ultra-high-purity Zero Air.

By generating Zero Air on demand, the system eliminated the need for frequent bottle replacement while providing a smaller footprint than traditional gas bottle storage.

Benefits

The Zero Air Generators provided a reliable, continuous source of high-purity air for emissions testing while reducing the potential for supply-related downtime. The smaller footprint also recovered valuable floor space previously occupied by gas bottles.

The system further reduced the workload for the maintenance team by eliminating the need to monitor and replace bottles, allowing personnel to focus on other maintenance priorities. Connecting the generators to the existing compressed air system also allowed the facility to utilize its current infrastructure.
