When a critical power unit failed without a spare available, Exotic quickly engineered, built, tested, and installed a replacement power unit in less than 48 hours, helping the customer avoid extended production downtime and costly delays.
Challenge
A manufacturing facility experienced a power unit failure on a Thursday afternoon, bringing a critical machine to a standstill. With no spare power unit or replacement parts readily available, every hour of downtime was costing the customer thousands of dollars. The customer’s immediate contingency plan was to remove a power unit from a less critical machine to keep the mandatory production equipment operating.
The situation required more than simply sourcing replacement components. The customer needed a reliable power unit solution that could be designed, built, and installed as quickly as possible to minimize the impact on production.
Solution
Exotic’s team visited the facility to assess the failed power unit, determine the lead time for replacement components, and identify an alternative solution that could get the machine running quickly. During the assessment, the team determined that Exotic’s Standard Power Unit Program could be used to build a replacement using components already in stock at Exotic’s New Hudson facility.
Engineering and drawings began immediately, with the customer approving the design Thursday evening. Assembly and testing began Friday, and on Saturday, Exotic’s Mobile Service team installed the completed power unit at the customer’s facility. From the initial service request to installation, the complete solution was implemented in less than 48 hours.

Following the immediate repair, Exotic worked with the customer to revisit the power unit design and develop a second unit capable of supporting multiple machines. This added redundancy to the customer’s operation and provided greater protection against future power unit failures.
